Dewaxed shellac in dewaxed skelet solution. It is a mixture of natural dewaxed shellac in a colorless alcoholic solution ready for use . Dewaxed shellac is indicated for the treatment and in particular for the pad finishing and polishing of antique furniture and light wood objects, to which we want to give the characteristic spirit and shellac finish. Characterized by a high level of quality and practicality in use, dewaxed shellac in solution is also used as a final protective varnish in gold leaf decorations.

Surface finish: 

It is carried out with a pad obtained with woolen knitted threads wrapped in a linen or soft cotton cloth. Immerse the wool in the waxed shellac solution, wrap it in the cloth and wring out the swab.

Pass the swab moving it in a rotational or 8-way direction. Never leave the swab stationary on the surface; to finish, do not lift it but exit the edges of the support without removing the surface pad.

To polish the surface more easily, it is necessary to dilute the solution of shellac dewaxed with ethyl alcohol with a degree higher or equal to 94 °, preferably at 99.9 °. Dilute and increase the dilution percentage with each new application. If you want to finish the treatment with beeswax, let the waxed shellac solution dry for 24 hours and apply the beeswax paste; old-fashioned furniture will be obtained, such as those polished by the old master cabinetmakers.

Swab preparation:

the pad consists of a pad, obtained with a non-colored piece of wool which constitutes its "soul", wrapped in a white cotton and linen cloth, the fabric used to make the sheets in the grandmother's time. The size of the pad depends on the surface to be polished. It will be smaller for carved surfaces or small bands and drawer fronts, larger for table tops or dressers.

During the polishing phase, shellac is poured into a large bowl so that the woolen cloth can be completely immersed in it. Once soaked well, it is squeezed with one hand, while the other holds the linen cloth open. When the well-wrung woolen cloth is placed in the center of the linen cloth and the four flaps are collected by twisting them, thus obtaining the pad ready for use.
